Chief Harris and Deputy Taylor continue to monitor the situation and report the fire to be out and poses no threat. We would like to hear your feedback on how you felt we responded regarding keeping you informed and the frequency of our updates. Please email svvfdinfo@telus.net to give us your feedback.
While we know not everyone seeks information through social media, we will always use this site to provide information and updates. For those residents that live in Sunshine Valley, if a fire does break out and does pose a serious threat you would have been directed as to where to physically go to receive information and when. In the event where a fire requires more immediate action and response, their would be members and volunteers going through the community to alert and provide information to residents.
Rest assured there is a plan in place for the residents of Sunshine Valley for just these occasions.
Remember when coming to the Valley always have enough gas to get you and your loved ones to the next town. Have your go bag ready including one for pets and children. We hope we never have to face a wildfire but if we do let's be prepared.
This is also a good time to look around your property to see if you need to remove any tree debris and consider booking a Fire Smart assessment for your home. You might have noticed our trees are starting to be affected by the drought and the moths so the more you do to protect around your home the better.
Something you can do right now is remove any wood stored from under your decks or right up against your home. We all like and need dry wood especially those who burn wood to heat their homes in the winter. However, having wood directly in contact with your home is a severe fire hazard not only for wildfire but for a house fire in general.
We choose to live amongst the trees and a quieter lifestyle that is community oriented. Let's all work together to keep our community safe, connected and protected.

There is now a complete campfire ban throughout Sunshine Valley but you are welcome to use your propane fire pits. Our members will be on active patrol throughout the remainder of the summer to ensure compliance and to keep our community safe from wild fire.
Every small town and rural community depends on something extraordinary—ordinary people willing to do the extraordinary.
Volunteer fire departments such as ours, are the backbone of emergency response in countless communities. These departments aren't staffed by strangers; they're made up of neighbors, friends, teachers, mechanics, students, and parents who step up to protect the places they call home.
But here's the challenge: volunteer fire departments across BC are facing a shortage of new recruits. As call volumes rise and our community in Sunshine Valley grows, the need for dedicated volunteers has never been more urgent.
You don’t need to be a superhero. You need heart, drive, and a willingness to train and serve. We offer comprehensive training and mentorship. Roles include:
If you've ever thought, “I wish I could do something to help,”—this is your moment. Your community needs you. Not someday. Not someone else. You.
Volunteer firefighting isn’t easy—but it’s worth it.

When you bring your bottles down to the fire hall all the money collected goes directly to the operations of the department.
Please consider dropping your bottles at the door of the firehall.
The Department relies on grants, fundraising and donations to keep things rolling.
If you are in an emergency or calling on behalf of someone how else,
Dial 604-869-2404 FIRST then call 911.
This ensures a quicker response time by our members. These steps are unique to the Sunshine Valley because of our remote location and not applicable to other areas in BC.
Always follow up by phoning 911 so don't skip this step.
We are proud to have a diverse and inclusive volunteer fire department of 12 members who give their time to ensure the safety and security not only of the valley, but also those who pass through.

Not only do our members ensure the safety of the homes and people within the Valley, they also support those passing through along highway #3 from Berkley Creek to The East Gate of Manning Park. In addition, members are trained to respond to forest fires and are typically first on scene for medical calls. Even when called away from the Valley there are always volunteers who remain close to home to respond to any local emergency.
Additionally, if you need assistance we have taken steps to identify the homes of our firefighters by placing a sign that indicates
"Firefighter Lives Here".
Throughout the year our firefighters host events such as the now famous September long weekend Pig Roast which always sells out, Pancake Breakfast with Santa and Parade, Music Bingo with silent auction, Fire Station Open House/Pancake Breakfast and our one-of-a-kind Halloween haunted house extravaganza. These events not only bring the community and its visitors together, but it is also a great opportunity to meet the volunteers keeping us all safe.
We thank the residents of the Valley for their financial support through the collection of fire dues as well as the generous donations we receive during these events and throughout the year. Your support is greatly appreciated.
If you wish to donate you don't have to wait for an event to do so. Contact svvfdinfo@telus.net to make a donation.
